Back-to-school should be an exciting time: new classes, new teachers, and new opportunities to thrive in extracurricular activities like taekwondo or piano.
But for many children in our community, participating in extracurricular activities remains out of reach due to financial barriers.
The single moms we support are working tirelessly to provide for their families. They budget rigorously, but with the rising costs of rent, groceries, and other basic needs, there’s nothing left over for extracurricular activities.
We believe
every child, despite their family’s financial situation, deserves the chance to discover and develop their talents, whether it's through sports, music, arts, or other enriching activities.
That’s why our goal is to raise $30,000 for Happy Healthy Children. With your support, we’ll be able to offer year-round financial assistance for extracurricular activities to more than 122 children.
And here’s the exciting part: thanks to a generous donor, all gifts made by September 26 will be matched up to $15,000—meaning your impact will go twice as far!
Happy Healthy Children is so much more than financial support—it ensures children living in poverty have access to the same experiences as their peers.
That was the reality for Ida, a single mom raising two pre-teen boys, Kaden and Lukas. Like most children their age, Kaden and Lukas are interested in sports and spending time with their friends. But, unlike their peers, neither boy learned how to swim.
“When you live in poverty and have no extra money for activities, it really singles you out as a kid.”
- Kim Gale, Coordinator of Volunteers, Education and Outreach
Despite careful budgeting, Ida never had enough left for swimming lessons after paying rent and groceries. That’s when Mom2Mom stepped in to cover the cost of lessons for both boys.
“Being a part of swimming has improved their confidence. They like to socialize with other kids, and it makes them feel less alone.”
- Ida, participant mom who accessed Happy Healthy Children
And for Ida, it means peace of mind and a sense of relief that other people care about her and her children.
