Meet Daria*

Rising food prices are hitting families hard, with costs expected to climb by another $800 a year for a family of four. Nearly half of single mothers in Canada already experience food insecurity, and these increases push struggling families even deeper into poverty.

Behind these numbers are real moms like Daria. As a refugee and single mother of two, she came to Canada hoping for a fresh start, but quickly faced the overwhelming responsibility of being the sole provider for her children while starting over in a new country without any support.

“I was doing very bad financially, and very bad emotionally,” she explains.

Everything changed when she was welcomed into the Mom2Mom community.

“I couldn’t believe it. Grocery support. Programs for kids. A volunteer who became my friend. I cannot imagine my life without Mom2Mom now.”

For Daria, the monthly grocery gift card has been life-changing.

“The $200 I get each month helps us survive. We can buy fresh fruits and vegetables. My daughter has stomach problems, so it’s very important we can choose healthy food she can eat. Berries, vegetables, the things she likes. That’s what makes a difference.”

Still, the rising cost of food makes it harder for families like hers to get by.

“Before, I could stretch the grocery gift card over two shopping trips. Now, I buy the same things but can’t make it last. Everything costs more.”

This holiday season, our goal is to raise $125,000 to increase grocery support by $25 per family each month.

When food is no longer a daily worry, children can grow, learn, and dream without limitation.

Single moms can focus on caring for their families with confidence.
