Meet Evie and Sasha: Mother-daughter volunteer duo

Mother-daughter pair Evie and Sasha began volunteering at Mom2Mom after attending a Mother’s Day event in 2015.

“At the event, there was a mom who spoke of the benefits she had received by having a Mom2Mom volunteer partner,” explains Evie.

“I was inspired by the idea that it was possible to make a difference by becoming a friend. I told my daughter about it and we decided to volunteer together.”

“I had just completed my degree and had two little kids,” says Sasha, Evie’s daughter. “I remember thinking how much I had leaned on my support system and how integral it had been. I wanted to do the same for another mom.”

The friendship offered by volunteers like Evie and Sasha helps to bring moms in need out of isolation and into community with caring, compassionate women who’ve walked a similar path. Alongside the monthly grocery support moms receive to help keep food on the table, friendship is vital to thriving moms and kids.

“My mom is older… I mean wiser,” Sasha says with a smile. “Mom has been through it and can offer advice from the other side.”

Evie adds, “I think it’s wonderful that we can volunteer together as mother and daughter. If I refer to a time when I was raising my kids, Sasha can offer her perspective of the story.”

Evie and Sasha are paired with Amanda* and over the years, their friendship has blossomed.

“I have watched Amanda’s children grow up. I’ve shared stories with her about raising children and life in general,” says Evie. “Learning about some of the challenges that she has to deal with as a single mom with three children has given me a great respect for her resourcefulness.”

Sasha adds, “It’s taught me a lot about the resilience of moms in our community.”
