— Reese, a Mom2Mom Participant

Reese’s apartment is more than just a place to live—it’s a sanctuary. Family members gather there, and she proudly displays treasures passed down from her late parents (including a beautiful couch her mother gifted her and a leather jacket that belonged to her father).
Unfortunately, Reese’s life was thrown into turmoil when her apartment building was infested with rodents. If that wasn’t stressful enough, the rodents destroyed Reese’s furniture, including her family heirlooms, beyond repair.
Losing these precious items was absolutely devastating to Reese. And, on top of that, she was now facing a plethora of unexpected costs.
“I am the matriarch of my family, so it is really hard to humble myself and ask for anything,” Reese admits.
But Reese knew she had somewhere to turn where she wouldn’t be judged: her Mom2Mom relationship volunteer.
“The relationship volunteer I am paired with is fabulous—I connect with her, and she has my best interest at heart. She hears my concerns, and I am validated. Whatever I am going through—good, bad, or ugly—she is there in the trenches with me.”

Reese’s relationship volunteer connected with Mom2Mom program coordinators to find a solution. Thanks to our community partnerships and Compassion Fund, Mom2Mom was able to source new furniture and other household essentials for Reese and her family.
“It made my heart melt!” Reese gushes. “The Compassion Fund gives us women hope and restores our faith in humanity. It helps us stand back up on our feet and continue on.”
Although it was extremely painful to let go of her ruined items, Reese’s volunteer was there to give her a hug and reassure her that this would be a fresh start.

“She helped me feel positive and not overwhelmed. I didn’t feel abandoned.”
