Annual
Report
2024/25
Dear Friends,
At Mom2Mom, we know that meaningful change happens through relationships—built on trust, respect, and the belief that every mother and child deserves a fair chance. This past year, that belief was tested by growing financial pressures, rising grocery prices, and the everyday realities of inflation that are making it harder for families to get by.
And yet, in the face of those challenges, our community showed up.
With your support—through funding, time, partnership, or advocacy—we helped moms navigate complex systems, kept fridges and pantries full, and provided consistent, compassionate support rooted in our core belief that the best way to improve the lives of children is by supporting their moms. Every one of these moments required real investment—of time, compassion, and resources—and every one made a difference.
To our donors: your continued generosity sustains this work.
To our volunteers, staff, and community partners: your commitment brings it to life every day.
And to the moms who trust us to walk beside you: your strength inspires everything we do.
This year showed us that even in the most challenging times, Mom2Mom—and the families we support—can rise to meet the moment. We are incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together, and even more hopeful for what’s ahead.
With gratitude,
Kim Haakstad
Board Chair
*This reflects the total number of families that received support, including those who graduated and joined the program in 2024-25.
Before Penny joined Mom2Mom, she felt incredibly isolated.
After hearing about Mom2Mom through a single mom group, everything changed for the better.
Now, several years later, as she prepares to graduate from the program, Penny fondly remembers attending past Mom2Mom events like the days we hosted Christmas dinners at the Ukrainian Hall or the picnic at MacLean Park every summer.
“It was like a family outside of family.” – Penny
In addition to the support she felt, Penny is adamant that the program positively impacted her son.
“It gave him a sense of security. Like okay we don’t have certain things, but we have the Mom2Mom team. He knew it was a nice, safe place to turn…it’s been so many great memories for us and has really given us a happy experience amongst the crummy ones.” – Penny
Although she is sad to say goodbye, Penny expresses how much stronger she feels thanks to Mom2Mom’s resources, help, and kindness.
“For some people this is their only help; not everyone has family or community, so this is it for someone like me. It’s a lifeline—it was for me. Just knowing you have that solid ground under your feet when nothing else is working. It makes a difference! A tremendous, tremendous difference. I can’t stress that enough.” – Penny
When Jess, Mom2Mom Relationship Volunteer, talks about the mom she is paired with, her eyes sparkle with admiration. “[Allison] is one of the sweetest moms I’ve ever met. She’s so humble, and she’s afraid to ask for help, but she’s so deserving of help. She’s looking after everyone, and who’s looking after her?”
What Jess touches on is largely the reason Mom2Mom was founded: to support women in their solo parenting journey who had nowhere else to turn. More than grocery gift cards and practical help, Mom2Mom builds confidence and shows moms there are people who care deeply for them and their children.
The range of resources offered to Mom2Mom families—groceries, funding for children’s extracurricular activities, the Compassion Fund—are also reasons why Jess decided to volunteer.
“That put things into a different perspective for me. I typically think so much in a box like ‘oh yeah it’s Thanksgiving—we’ll give them a gift card to a buy a turkey!’ Well, they might not have a pan to cook that turkey. They might not even need that turkey when something else is more pressing—like medicine for their kid. Mom2Mom opened my eyes to the different avenues of support and how customizable it is to each mom. It really does feel like you are making a change—you can SEE that change.” – Jess
Something that surprised Jess was how similar her and Allison are, despite their different backgrounds.
“We both deal with anxiety, and we both get overwhelmed in situations. There’s so many things that connect us…we do have a lot of things in common.” – Jess
From attending Mom2Mom events like the Holiday movie to grabbing a coffee on Sunday morning or simply sending a quick text, Jess appreciates how flexible volunteering with Mom2Mom is. That these seemingly simple acts make a world of difference.
