Raising children is one of the toughest jobs in the world, especially in a city as expensive as Vancouver.
For single mothers living in poverty, the challenges are only compounded; without anyone to share the responsibility and financial cost of child-rearing, single moms often feel isolated and overwhelmed. As the cost of living continues to soar, their burden becomes even heavier.
That’s why Mom2Mom created the Compassion Fund: a reserve fund that provides single moms with direct financial support for urgent or unexpected costs. Whether it’s a medical bill not covered by MSP, extra grocery support, replacing a broken appliance, or more, the Compassion Fund is a vital resource for single moms living in poverty.

When her two-year-old daughter’s stroller was broken, Mia was instantly filled with dread.
“I was so stressed not being able to go out when I didn’t have a stroller. How would I even survive? Just picture a life without a stroller when you have a baby. There’s nowhere you can go, nothing you can do.” – Mia
Without a car, Mia relied on her stroller to get groceries, go to appointments, and complete other necessary tasks. And, as a single mom living on a fixed income, every dollar Mia has is carefully budgeted. The unexpected cost of a new stroller was not one she could afford.
That’s when she reached out to her Mom2Mom relationship volunteer for support. Through Mom2Mom’s Compassion Fund, Mia was able to purchase a new stroller for her daughter.

“Receiving that help meant a lot to me. Without that, I don’t know how my life would be. It really meant something and changed something in me. From the bottom of my heart, I’m very grateful for everything.”
