A Fun-Filled Summer for Thomas, Jane and Mia*

Because of you, Thomas, Jane and Mia had many happy moments this summer.

At the end of June, we reached out to you to help fill the gap when school closes and critical supports - like hot meal programs and free after-school activities - vanish for moms and their children living in poverty.

You responded in support of families in need and we wanted to share a few stories from the summertime adventures you made possible.

In addition to helping families with extra grocery support while children were home all day without their school breakfast and lunch programs, your generosity made it possible for Thomas, Jane and Mia to have special experiences this summer.

10 year old Thomas wanted to explore the city with his mom, but the cost of a Compass Pass was standing in the way of his big summer adventure. Thanks to you, Thomas received a Compass Pass and planned a variety of low cost/ no cost activities to participate in with his mom.

They went to UBC to see the Museum of Anthropology. They explored the Beaty Biodiversity Museum. Thomas and his mom took many trips downtown to walk the seawall and take in a free outdoor movie. The pass also gave Thomas access to the transportation he needed to get to Horseshoe Bay so that he could attend Camp Elphinstone.

Thomas proudly described his summer as: “Thomas’ summer adventures with his bus pass!”

Best friends Jane and Mia, both 11, were looking for a summertime activity to do together and their moms reached out for support. Both girls are artistic and love to create, and thanks to you, they were able to attend a week long day camp at 4CATS Art Studio.

Jane and Mia spent the week drawing, painting, sculpting and more. Below are some photos of their artwork.

“Going to art camp was really positive for my girl,” says Katelyn*, Mia’s mom. “Mia brought home beautiful creations and I’ve displayed them all around our home. She even gave a few pieces to family members. We are all so proud of her.”

I am forever grateful to the staff, volunteers and the generosity of everyone who donated to this incredible program. I honestly don’t feel so alone in the world now that I have Mom2Mom supporting my family.
